One Self

One Self

Leaving then
Following some footsteps
To the next
Ending

Finding oneself
Knowing the ticking
That makes one
Tock

Beginning anew
Understanding all fibers
That make one
Many

Finding another
One who understood
And catalyzed our
Brood

Breaking apart
From a release
We thought wouldn’t
Happen

Beginning again
By letting go
Of every single
Inhibition

Falling for
A thing we
Knew we couldn’t
Control

Falling apart
Blind to difference
That we dutifully
Ignored

Tearing souls
Out for others
When one becomes
Weak

Destroying oneself
When we didn’t
See the unbeaten
Path

Ripped apart
By another end
Into the next
Beginnings

Learning again
How to be
Content without dependent
Needs

Repairing masks
That we made
When everything cast
Shade

Finding another
That we knew
Was best for
Us

Leaving indifferently
Being left
To forage
Or so we thought

Knowing perfection
As others defect
Its truths and
Reality

Knowing ourselves
Others helped us
Become the best
We

For that
We are ever
Thankful that others
Chose

Us

  1. I can really connect with this poem’s view of the deconstruction and reconstruction of one’s self. How we are constantly changing ourselves, be it damaging or beneficial. Well-written.
