Tinsel Snake

Tinsel Snake

Scales rise,
Uncoiling,
With a strong spine
Stood imposedly
Arching intent
To hold its poise
In utter silence,
Preparing to pounce
After unhinging its mouth.

In jaws of tinsel snakes
Slithering through
Ashen runes
Are droplets of acrid
Sap
Fallen from
Bark cathedrals.

They display
Amber helberds
As curved fangs
To taste salty meat
Of quick and easy prey.

Docile like a fern,
Unperturbed,
Until frenzied into fray.
