Amulet

Amulet

That amulet.
Where is it?

Held so innocently,
Found innocuously
Where another
Before had
Cruelly misplaced it.

Silver chain
Links broken.

Craftsman’s pain
Of setting emerald
And ruby,
Affixed to small
Golden links.

Once around
A fragile wrist
Who tenderly
Handled it.

Musk of
Old cigars
Trapped
To the bracelet.

Dredged from
In between
Bus seat cushions.

A little boy
Eyed his find
With wonder.

Where had it
Come from?
Where is it
Going?

Who might have
Wanted or wasn’t
Aware
That the links
Slipped off of
Their wrist?

A little boy
Proudly wore
An amulet
He found.

With no such
Questions
On mind found.
