Eid

You were beaming without a care
Knew I was taking you out
To dinner
But you didn’t know where

Could have ended up
All cuddled up
On my couch downstairs
With Tim Burton movies

But when we arrived
All your friends had
Already been there
To blindside you

Was never that good
At surprise parties
But everyone who knew you
Was ecstatic to be a part

I thought this that morning
As Hunter and I bought decor
And food platters and set up
The room for everyone

So proud was I as I left
To go get you
None the wiser, fast paced
And stopping for breath

Anthem always soothes the nerves
So you bought me something
And we headed to our lonesome
Date on our own downstairs

Only for you to open your eyes
To your best friends
Hiding in plain sight
Waiting for you to get there

To which we all said
“Eid Mubarak”
And maybe it wasn’t what
You expected

But your expression told us all
That what you got
Was more valuable than
Anything we set up
