Seven Years Ago

Seven years ago
Halo: Reach was coming out.

I was 13 and my best friend
Had convinced me to get an Xbox
360.

Middle school seems too far away
To think those days faded away.

But in seven years
So much can change.

Like the places and the people,
I’ve moved away from

All the stories and times
I’ll never understand

Because it’s been 4 years
Since I’ve seen my best friend

Had to talk him through
His first breakup
Over messages

Now it’s seven years later
And a girl he doesn’t know
Is turning eighteen
And I’m in love with her

Strange how

Time plays.
After seven years
Everything
Has changed.

Still feeling our way
Through shapeless days.
Still making it up
As we go along

Even as adults.

When we thought
We’d have all the
Answers,

We’re beginning to learn
That no one has a
Codebook to this enigma.
