This Life
Good night you gorgeous creature.
I hope your rest is pleasant
And that maybe in your dreams
I will appear to help settle things
When a monster or beast
May appear on good to feast,
I will lay down my weapon
If only to hold you in streams.
Under blue clouds,
Over purple rivers,
On bridges of green,
I will be waiting
Infinitely expanded into
Every universe you might see.
Things may frighten you,
But so too there will I be
In blue pathways,
On green mountains,
Sitting in purple grass,
I’ll be there with picnics
On a vivid checkerboard blanket
With a black wicker basket.
I’ll have your favorite sandwiches
You need not even ask for.
In green canyons,
On blue hills,
Purple runoff streams
Keep our lunch so chill
In the snow in your dreams,
Pleasant imaginings,
And evaporating cold white breath
Taking in the landscape’s breadth.
I’ll fend off all the beastly demons
And monsters hidden in the brush.
I am your stead and I am your love,
This life I hold asleep in my arms
While asleep you gaze idyllically
At all the things made for you,
Black picnic basket beside you,
With blues, greens, and purples.
